| Welcome to St John's Festival 2008 |
Welcome to the sixth St John's Festival of arts, culture, and community. St John's is proud to be hosting this Festival, which this year draws on even more groups from our diverse community. You will see in this programme two weeks of richly diverse events for young and old, and from every background.
When St John's was built in 1845, it was the first building in the area, and it then stood among fields. Shortly after, when the surrounding area was developed, all the lay out of the streets showed clearly that the Church was at the heart of the community, and was its physical and spiritual focal point. 1845 is not 2008, but we still believe that the Church lies at the heart of the community, and our developing May Festival demonstrates this.
We are very fortunate to be situated in Notting Hill, with its enormous human and cultural diversity. Our Festival celebrates this human diversity, and showcases some of the enormous talent which is in that community. We are proud, too, to be working together with our commercial sponsors and backers, as a way of enhancing partnership in the community.
There is a lot on offer in these two weeks, so come and enjoy yourself at the St John's Festival.
With Best Wishes
William Taylor
